Compare Features Shop Minn KotaFirst, Both Generations Are QUEST Motors
The original Minn Kota QUEST platform introduced brushless motor technology, dual-voltage 24/36V operation, and 90/115 lbs of thrust. The newer generation builds on that foundation with updated boat control and integration features.
What's New with the 2026 Generation?
Improved Spot-Lock
Minn Kota advertises up to a 50% tighter Spot-Lock hold compared with previous trolling motors. Actual positioning depends on conditions and the motor configuration.
Draw & Navigate
Draw a route on a compatible Minn Kota fish finder and have the trolling motor follow that course. Requires supported electronics and software.
Wireless Connectivity
Compatible new Minn Kota fish finders and trolling motors can communicate wirelessly, reducing the need for a dedicated Ethernet connection between those devices.
Intelligent Depth Control
Supported systems can monitor depth changes, provide shallow-water alerts and activate compatible protective boat-control functions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Q2 more powerful than the original QUEST?
Both generations of QUEST use brushless technology, and comparable 24/36V models retain 90/115 lb thrust ratings. The key upgrades are in positioning, controls, navigation and integration rather than a major increase in rated thrust.
Does the new Ultrex automatically stow and deploy?
No. Ultrex retains manual stow/deploy with Lift-Assist. For automatic stow/deploy, look at Ulterra or Riptide Instinct.
Can my existing Humminbird fish finder work with a new motor?
Compatibility depends on the exact fish finder, trolling motor and software version. Some existing Humminbird displays support updated features, but not every feature or connection method is available on every combination.
Does wireless integration eliminate all cables?
No. Wireless integration can eliminate the dedicated Ethernet connection between compatible fish finders and trolling motors. Power, sonar, transducer and other system wiring may still be required.
Can I upgrade an original QUEST with software?
Some compatible equipment can receive software updates that add new system capabilities. Availability depends on the exact motor and connected electronics. A software update cannot provide new physical hardware.
What is the difference between QUEST and a standard motor?
QUEST is Minn Kota's brushless motor platform, with dual-voltage 24/36V operation and reinforced construction. Standard 80 lb and 112 lb brushed configurations are different from the original QUEST versus new QUEST comparison covered here.
