Is the X Series Screen Higher Resolution?
The equivalent 9", 10", and 12" models have the same published pixel counts. The X16 adds a larger Full HD option; the X7 adds a smaller option.
| Size class | XPLORE | X Series |
|---|---|---|
| 7" | No model | X7: 7" / 1024 × 600 |
| 9" | 9" / 1280 × 720 | X9: 9" / 1280 × 720 |
| 10" | 10.1" / 1280 × 800 | X10: 10.1" / 1280 × 800 |
| 12" | 12.1" / 1280 × 800 | X12: 12.1" / 1280 × 800 |
| 16" | No model | X16: 15.6" / 1920 × 1080 |
Pixel count alone does not measure brightness, glare, or overall viewing quality.
Keep Your XPLORE or Upgrade?
Keep it if the screen already works for you
Our recommendation: update a working XPLORE before spending money on a same-size replacement. The new navigation features are also available to XPLORE owners.
Compare the complete package price if buying new. An XPLORE may make sense when its size, mapping, and sonar configuration fit your needs.
Upgrade for a specific benefit
Our recommendation: consider X16 if you want more room for live sonar or multiple views. Consider X7 where space is limited.
For a new boat or a full electronics rebuild, compare the X Series package with the transducers, mounts, and networking you plan to use.
What Matters When Connecting Your Equipment?
- Trolling motor generation: Minn Kota lists existing 2024-or-newer Advanced GPS Navigation motors as eligible for wireless integration through software updates. An older i-Pilot Link connection does not establish eligibility for the new wireless features.
- Sonar connections: wireless motor control does not replace transducer, power, or Ethernet sonar connections. Match the exact transducer and adapters to the display before choosing CHO.
- Software: update the fish finder and applicable accessories together. Older XPLORE software may require intermediate updates before installing 7.400. Follow the manufacturer's update sequence.
- Mounting: match the bracket, dash opening, and rear cable clearance to the exact model. The X10 / XPLORE 10 in-dash kit is shared, but that does not mean every mount fits every size. Both series require an external GPS antenna when installed in-dash.
Mapping changes: LakeMaster and CoastMaster expertise continues under Minn Kota Maps. Compare coverage and mapping tiers for the waters you fish before purchasing a new card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my XPLORE obsolete?
No. Minn Kota says existing Humminbird products remain supported within their published compatibility requirements. XPLORE is eligible for the new fish finder software features.
Do I need X Series for Draw & Navigate?
No. XPLORE version 7.400 adds it. You still need a compatible trolling motor and the required equipment software.
Does X Series automatically give me better sonar?
Choose the complete sonar system, not just the display name. Both families support Humminbird sonar technologies; the transducer, installation, software, and screen size all matter.
Can I keep my MEGA Live 2 or MEGA 360?
Minn Kota confirms both remain compatible within the Minn Kota system. BFE can match your display, transducer, network, and software versions for the planned installation.
Should I buy a CHO model?
Choose CHO when you already have a compatible sonar source or are buying your sonar separately. Choose a transducer-included package when you need the supplied transom sonar. MEGA Live 2 is a separate purchase.
Is everything wireless now?
No. Wireless integration handles supported equipment control. Your fish finder still needs power, and sonar and display networking use their required physical connections.
