Unlock Your Minn Kota Ultrex Quest: Essential Setup Tips!

Unlock Your Minn Kota Ultrex Quest: Essential Setup Tips!

Just got a new Minn Kota Ultrex Quest trolling motor? Congratulations! These motors are game-changers on the water, offering incredible precision and power. But like any advanced piece of technology, there are a few key setup steps to ensure you're getting the most out of it right from the start.

At BassFishin Electronics in Auburn, New Hampshire, we're sharing a quick BFE Pro Tip of the Day to help you configure your new Ultrex Quest for optimal performance.

Step 1: Connecting to Your Phone via Bluetooth

The first crucial step is to pair your Ultrex Quest with your smartphone. While the exact steps might vary slightly between iPhone and Android, the core concept remains the same:

  1. Power On: Ensure your trolling motor is powered on via the foot pedal.

  2. Activate Pairing: Locate and press the "Pair" button on your Ultrex Quest motor head.

  3. Bluetooth Settings: Go into your phone's Bluetooth settings.

  4. Find Device: Look for "Minn Kota Controller 4.0" (or similar) in your list of available devices and select it. You'll hear an audible tone from your trolling motor confirming a successful connection.

This Bluetooth connection is essential for accessing the Minn Kota One-Boat Network app, where you'll make important adjustments.

Step 2: Optimizing Spot-Lock with Boat Scale

Spot-Lock is one of the most beloved features of Minn Kota trolling motors, and with the Ultrex Quest, you can fine-tune its responsiveness. This is done through the "Boat Scale" setting in the One-Boat Network app.

  1. Open One-Boat Network App: Launch the app on your phone.

  2. Navigate to Motor Settings: Select "Motor" from the main menu.

  3. Access Setup & Calibration: In the top-right corner, tap the three lines to open the motor settings, then scroll down to "Setup and Calibration."

  4. Adjust Boat Scale: Here, you'll find the "Boat Scale" setting. It typically defaults to zero. We've found that setting it to -1 is ideal for bass boats, as it changes how responsive Spot-Lock is. This is a matter of personal preference, so feel free to experiment to find what works best for your boat and fishing style.

Step 3: Setting Your Stow Orientation

Proper stow orientation is critical, especially if you have multiple electronics like LiveScope or other live sonar systems. You want to ensure your trolling motor stows correctly every time you pull it out of the water, preventing any interference or damage to your sensitive transducers.

  1. Access Stow Orientation: In the same "Setup and Calibration" menu within the One-Boat Network app, you'll find "Stow Orientation."

  2. Select Prop Direction: Observe which direction your prop is facing when the motor is stowed. If it's facing "end" (as shown in the video), you'll likely want to change this setting to "Prop Right" or "Prop Left" to ensure it stows cleanly and efficiently every time.

These quick tips will help you get your new Minn Kota Ultrex Quest dialed in, allowing you to hit the water with confidence and enjoy years of precision control and effortless boat positioning.
