What’s up, guys? Steve from BassFishin Electronics here.
While the Northeast is currently locked in ice and we can’t get on the water just yet, that doesn't stop the gear from rolling into the shop. Today, we’re breaking down the all-new Lowrance Active Target 2 XL Transducer.
Lowrance has really stepped up the game with this "XL" version. It’s not just about a bigger footprint; it’s about a massive leap in functionality and ease of use on the water. Here’s the rundown on why this rig belongs on your boat. Check the full video below:
Three Views, Zero Movement
The biggest "wow" factor with the AT2 XL is the internal design. It features three separate elements pointed in different directions. In the past, if you wanted to switch from Forward to Down, you were usually hanging over the bow of the boat, clicking your transducer into a new position.
With the XL, you can utilize Forward, Down, and Reverse without ever touching the transducer. You simply toggle the mode on your HDS unit.
-
Reverse View: This is a sneaky-good feature. It allows you to see 60 to 80 feet behind the boat. Why does that matter? Smallmouth are notorious for holding deep and then moving up once they see the shadow of the boat pass over them. Now, you can see those fish without having to spin your trolling motor 180 degrees.
-
Down View: Perfect for vertical fishing or "blade baiting" directly under the boat. It provides a crystal-clear image of what’s right beneath you.
-
Forward View: Your standard bread-and-butter. You’re getting that 100 to 120-foot reach out in front to pick apart cover and find active fish.
The New "No-Tools" Bracket
Lowrance also completely redesigned the mounting bracket, and it is slick. They’ve eliminated the need for tools when you're out on the water.
You can loosen the clamp by hand and rotate the transducer into Scout Mode in seconds. They’ve even added two distinct Scout settings:
-
Scout Shallow: Parallel to the lake bottom—perfect for searching those 10-foot-and-under flats.
-
Scout Deep: One click down for searching deeper water (10+ feet).
Universal Compatibility
We know you guys run different rigs, and the AT2 XL is ready for all of them. The bracket features a quick-release clamp and comes with a variety of bushings. Whether you are running a Minn Kota Ultrex Quest, a Garmin Force Pro, or a Lowrance Ghost, this unit will mount up perfectly with no additional hardware required.
Final Thoughts
The Active Target 2 XL is all about efficiency. The less time you spend messing with your transducer bracket, the more time you spend with your bait in the water. We can’t wait to get this thing out on the water once the thaw happens to show you the actual on-screen returns.
