BFE Tech Talk: Customizing Your Lowrance Layout & Overlays
Hey everyone, Steve here from Bass Fishing Electronics. Today, we’re diving into a quick Lowrance tip to help you get the most out of your HDS or Elite unit. Whether you’re chasing bass on the lake or redfish in the marsh, having a screen layout that works for you is key to staying on the fish.
Getting Into Edit Mode
First things first, look at those customized icons on the right side of your screen. To customize one, just do a long press on the icon you want to change. You’ll see a wrench and an ‘X’ appear, which means you’re in edit mode. Click that wrench to get started.
Choosing Your Panels
In the Page Editor, it’s a simple drag-and-drop process. You can choose from options like ActiveTarget, mapping, and sonar. You can even have three different screens on one layout!
Once you’ve chosen your panels, you can customize the layout further. For example, you might want a bigger map and ActiveTarget screen with a smaller sonar panel on the side. Once you’re happy with the arrangement, just hit save.
Fine-Tuning Your Splits
Even after you’ve saved your layout, you can still tweak it. Press the power button to open the system controls menu, then select Adjust Splits. This allows you to drag the dividers and resize your panels exactly how you want them.
Customizing Your Overlays
Want to see your depth, water temp, or time at a glance? Hit the power button again and go to Edit Overlay. From the menu, you can add or delete data points and even change their size from small to extra-large based on your personal preference.
For example, I like to have my time displayed right in the middle and set to a medium size so it’s easy to read. Once everything is set, hit save and you’ve got a completely customized screen ready for your next trip.
Customizing your Lowrance unit is super easy and can make a big difference out on the water. Hopefully, these tips help you find and catch more fish!
