Troubleshooting Your Lowrance Ghost: The Essential 5-Step Reset!

Troubleshooting Your Lowrance Ghost: The Essential 5-Step Reset!

Is your Lowrance Ghost trolling motor beeping, flashing, or just not behaving quite right? Before you contact a service center or Lowrance support, there's a crucial troubleshooting step you should always try: the essential 5-step reset procedure. This process can resolve many common software-related glitches and get you back on the water faster.

At BassFishin Electronics in Auburn, New Hampshire, we're sharing a critical Pro Tip from our latest video that walks you through this very procedure.

Watch it here or follow the steps below:

Why Reset Your Ghost?

Over time, software conflicts or minor glitches can cause unexpected behavior in your trolling motor. This comprehensive reset helps to recalibrate the system and push fresh software, often resolving issues like:

  • Unexplained beeping or flashing lights

  • Inconsistent motor noise

  • Erratic steering or prop behavior

The 5-Step Reset Procedure:

Follow these steps precisely as shown in our video to give your Ghost a fresh start:

  1. Master Reset (Configuration Mode): The first step involves putting your Ghost into configuration mode and initiating a master reset [00:3000:44]. This is your baseline reset for the entire system.

  2. Force Software Push: After a quick power cycle, you'll re-enter configuration mode. This time, the goal is to force the pedal to push its software to the head unit of the motor, ensuring all components are running the latest, most cohesive software [01:0601:11].

  3. Pedal Calibration (Service Mode): This is a critical step for accurate pedal response. You'll enter a specific service configuration mode, then perform a heel-to-toe calibration of the pedal [01:5402:36]. This teaches the motor the full range of your pedal's movement.

  4. Lower Unit Alignment: It's vital to align the lower unit with the trolling motor mount, not the boat's keel [02:4602:52]. This ensures your motor is pointing accurately relative to its mounting.

  5. Setting Voltage (if applicable): If you're running a 36V system, remember that the reset procedure will default to 24V. You'll need to manually adjust the voltage setting back to 36V after completing the other steps [03:5703:59].

Once you've completed these steps, your Lowrance Ghost should be recalibrated and ready to perform optimally. This procedure is a powerful tool in your troubleshooting arsenal, often saving you a trip to the service center.
